Yes We Can (Refinish Furniture)

This weekend I finally redid the finish on the rocking chair on my porch so it would be weather proof. This is pretty lame on my part b/c I've had the poor rocker sitting on my porch since April. Oops.
The stain came out really well and despite hand sanding the whole thing, it wasn't too much work. Next weekend, I want to do a bookshelf I have out there and maybe the porch swing that came with the apartment after that. The chair was the most important thing to get done though b/c Mom gave it to me. The bookshelf just came from Target.
I've been inspired to make my porch look nicer b/c Mom found a beautiful mosaic tile bistro set for the porch. Now I have to make the rest of the porch pretty to match! Hopefully I will have the porch looking nice in time for us to enjoy it this spring. (Of course, this might mean moving my bicycle off the porch as well!)
Other highlights of the weekend include eating at Patois with Bruce and Linda (Benjy's former neighbors for whom we cat sit), and getting to play with our friends Sarah and Jonathan's new kitten. Patois was really good and Zoe (the kitten) is tiny and adorable. All in all, it was a lovely weekend!
I'm including a picture of the bistro table along with my Mom and my poor bald dogs who got into wet paint and had to be shaved!

Wow, small world--I was given a kitchen table and chairs by a wonderful lady. Unfortunately, they are pine with every part of the chairs except the seats pained powder blue. Nothing against powder blue, but it doesn't go with my decor at all! Now I have to find someplace that will ship stripper, stain, and finish to FPO. :P

How did the dogs get into the paint?  And are there any photos?

The dogs were at my parent's house over Christmas while I was in Switzerland. My parents are remodeling their kitchen. The dogs like to run around and be rowdy after they get a bath, and this time they ran into the side of the freshly painted kitchen bar. Oops! Sadly, my parents were too busy catching them (and one of my mom's mini schnauzers as well) to take pictures, which I think would have been hilarious.

Maybe you can just put a cushion over them. I think sewing a cushion is easier than refinishing! :)

I wish it were that easy! The only part of the chair that's wood-colored is the seat. The rest is this awful blue color that def does NOT go with my cranberry and black accent scheme. Although I have purchased fabric to make entire chair covers. Shouldn't be too difficult, I'd think. It's so odd-Jusco sells fabric to the 10 cm increments. It's a good thing I had my calclulator in my purse when I was buying the fabric!

At least it is warmer in New Orleans than, say, Louisville.  With the weather we have had here for the past week or two, your dogs would really be hurting without their fur.
